FIELD VISIT

INTRODUCTION

Field visit form a central part of educational system. Field visit allow you to approach your area of study in hands on and experimental manner, combining theory with real life experiences and cultural perspective. They also give you the chance to see the places in a meaningful way and to visit people and areas you would never otherwise have access to.

Field visit is an intense combination of academic, cultural exploration and experiences socialising and functioning students often visits, union institutions, architecture and design projects, historical movements and places of recreation as a part of their field visit. Field visit is a travel experience with specific learning tools but due to this pandemic situation we have to convert this tour of field visit to a virtual tour. The learning goals of each field visit vary, but are always spelled out in the course syllabus that in-distributed to each learner. Study tour emphasize experimental learning and both group and self directed activities that enable learners to explore new territories, culture and people.

As part of our B.Ed curriculum, the teacher trainees of Mathematics optionals of St Jacob’s training college ,Menamkulam organised a virtual tour to Ramanujan museum in Chennai and Ramanujan house in Kumbakonam on 23th July 2021 at 4pm through google meet and youtube.

NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE

Field visit is an important part of B.Ed education. Field visit helps the acquire skills in planning, organizing, administration and implimentation of tour programme with productive use of time handling , relationship, seeming co-operation and co-ordination whenever required. It develop aesthetic skills by watching and appreciating different places. It helps to know about unique talents of Mathematician ramanujan.

Field visit develop life skills. It also develop the attitude of social mingling. It enhance sense organs through observation

OBSERVATION FINDINGS

The museum also contain the notebooks, unpublished articles, photos of ramanujan family’s ,his colleagues which was a visual treat for visitor’s.it is an amazing place to bring your kids to get involved with arts such as dance, music. There is also a library inside the museum which provides good books with free of cost for school kids and less paid for others.

REFLECTIONS

Ramanujan Museum and Ramanujan House is a unique place to visit. It has a good collection of original works and letters of Ramanujan. It is so amazing to see his works - continuous stream of equations. When you see his works, you can appreciate what Ramanujan himself said about his own works " An equation for me has no meaning, unless it expresses a thought of God"; it is highly impossible to write continuously such stream of equations with absolutely no correction in the page. Wonderful experience overall.
Thanks to PK Srinivasan sir for putting together this amazing museum, so that people like us see the math God.Thanks to the staff - they are very helpful, and courteous.

Ramanujan Museum is located with the Trust Building of AVVAI ACADEMY. One can have a look inside the Ramanujan Museum. Here you can get some insight about the man and his obsession with mathematics.
A genius in his own right. He is infact famous for solving a few mathematical problems which surprised some English mathematicians and scholars. A few of the Englishmen at that time grew fond of his research and others supported him as well. Like these days... in his own time he saw many people who discouraged his research and findings and so did not let him progress. He was regarded a scholar and compulsive learner of mathematics.
Many south Indians are regarded as good in mathematics and learn through app or have different methods these days. But here is a man who did not have all the comforts we enjoy today. Despite the disadvantages and ill health and other situations which were discouraging, Ramanujan proved that he had something worthwhile to prove and that he was indeed a star and a genius in mathematics.

Learning about the man and his life revolving around mathematics, it is truly humbling experience.

CONCLUSION

Every field visit has a specific purpose. Our visit was also a worthy one . We were able to imbibe the essence of contributions of sir ramanujan and also got enormous knowledge on his life style by visiting the museum and house. Ramanujan sir spend his whole life in Mathematics Research but through this visit we know about the other person who also has contributed in ramanujan sir life that is his beloved wife janaki ammal . If she were with ramanujan sir in london then he may alive also we may see magic’s in mathematics through ramanujan sir’s findings.

A field visit is an essential factor when we do a course like B.Ed . We should understand and know and hardship in conducting a field visit. The safety and good accommodation must be given first preference if tour is of more than a day but our visit was a virtual one so its enough to look the technical issues. The organisation skills are developed from such a study tour. A good teacher must be a good organiser, controller, facilitator in all aspects.
