Education as an Investment - Share of GDP to education
Education is considered as an investment in human capital. Human capital can be described as the knowledge, abilities and skills of an individual, acquired through education, training and experience, which help the latter to be more productive and thus improve his potential income earning.
Gross domestic product (GDP) is a monetary measure of the market value of all the final goods and services produced in a specific time period. GDP is often used as a metric for international comparisons as well as a broad measure of economic progress.
The country spent only 3.1% of its GDP on education in 2019-'20 against the 6% recommended by every national policy since 1968. India needs to spend 6% of its gross domestic product on education, every national education policy since 1968 has said.
